| Measurement | Typical LWB van | Typical XLWB van |
|---|---|---|
| Load length | about 3.4 to 3.7 m | about 4.0 to 4.3 m |
| Load width | about 1.7 m (about 1.35 m between the wheel arches) | about 1.7 m |
| Load height | about 1.7 to 1.9 m (high roof) | about 1.9 to 2.1 m |
| Load volume | about 11 to 13 m³ | about 14 to 17 m³ |
| Payload | ours: about 1,100 to 1,300 kg | |
These are typical figures for 3.5-tonne long wheelbase panel vans and vary by make, model and roof height.

XLWB van dimensions add length rather than width: an extra-long wheelbase van typically has a load length of about 4.0 to 4.3 metres and 14 to 17 cubic metres of space. It suits long items, such as doors, worktops, timber and long furniture, that will not lie flat in a standard long wheelbase van. Tell us the longest item when you book.
Our long wheelbase vans take up to 3 to 4 standard UK pallets or 4 to 5 Euro pallets, within a payload of about 1,100 to 1,300 kg. The weight usually runs out before the floor space with dense loads, so give us the weight of each pallet. Pallets need a forklift or pallet truck at each end unless the goods can be carried by hand. See pallet delivery.

Both cost the same with us: £60 for the first 10 miles, then £1.80 a mile, plus VAT. Smaller loads go in a small van. All sizes: van sizes and our fleet. To book, get a courier quote.
A typical long wheelbase panel van has a load length of about 3.4 to 3.7 metres, and an extra-long wheelbase van about 4.0 to 4.3 metres. That is long enough for most sofas, flat-pack furniture, lengths of timber and pipe, and several pallets in a row. Exact lengths vary by make and roof height.
A 3.5-tonne long wheelbase panel van typically carries about 1,000 to 1,400 kg, depending on the model and its equipment. Ours carry about 1,100 to 1,300 kg. Because a panel van body is lighter than a Luton box, a long wheelbase van often carries more weight than a Luton.
XLWB means extra-long wheelbase: the same van with a longer body, usually adding about half a metre of load length and two to four cubic metres of volume. Choose it for long items such as doors, worktops or long pallets of materials. The weight it can carry is often slightly lower than the standard LWB.
Book a long wheelbase van for heavy or long loads, and a Luton for bulky, light loads such as household furniture. A Luton holds more volume, up to 6 UK pallets in ours, while the long wheelbase van carries more weight. Both cost the same with us: £60 for the first 10 miles, then £1.80 a mile, plus VAT.
Yes. Our long wheelbase vans take up to 3 to 4 standard UK pallets or 4 to 5 Euro pallets, within about 1,100 to 1,300 kg. The pallets need loading and unloading by forklift or pallet truck at each end, unless the goods can be carried by hand. Tell us the pallet heights and weights when you book.
